Chapter 7

JD’s gaze felt like fire. Gabriella’s temperature was rising. How could they run so hot and cold? She drew her arm across her forehead, wondering if it had suddenly gotten warmer outside. She hadn’t been with anyone in way too long; not that she was about to be, but she hadn’t even thought about it much lately.

The fact that she was squirming in her seat told her more than she wanted to know. That grungy old guy that pulled up to her car had somehow transformed into a guy she wanted to wrap her thighs around, if only for one night.

Not like it would hurt anything to fool around with someone. They were consenting adults, and yet...the idea alone already had her backtracking. She wasn’t like Savannah, her college friend that slept with anything that moved. Okay, that’s not fair, and it was way too judgmental, she didn’t mean to slut shame her friend, but at this moment she was clawing for reasons not to climb on his lap and beg him to take her to bed.

Gabriella broke their smoldering moment by turning away from him. She stood and announced, “I’m not that kind of girl. Nobody spanks my ass.”

JD arched an eyebrow. He’d hit a nerve. Only, it wasn’t a bad one, it was a holy cow, that turned me on nerve, and she wasn’t comfortable admitting it.

JD stood and stepped closer. He put the ball back in her court. “Maybe it’s time somebody did.”

It wasn’t a question.

It was a bold-ass statement.

The way he looked at her said that he wasn’t the kind of guy to back down from a challenge.

Gabriella swallowed a sarcastic remark. She stumbled over her words as goose bumps raced up her arms. “Yeah, well, whatever.” Whatever? What was that? That was the best she had to give back?

JD inched closer.

She could barely breathe. She imagined his arms wrapping around her and pulling her in, then slowly dropping his hands to rest on the curve of her ass. She wanted to kiss him, to feel his hot breath against her. Only instead of kissing her, he stepped away and went inside.

Confused, she chased after him. “What was that?”

JD spun around and caught her in his arms. He licked his lips and smiled. He’d make her beg. “Tell me what you want.”

“What? No. Whoa, slow down. You think...?” She shook her head violently. “Oh, no, you are sadly mistaken.”

“Am I?” He held her stare.

Her heart went into overdrive, beating so hard and fast it made her head spin. How did they go from bickering outside to this? He’d gotten under her skin. She wasn’t sure how she’d make it through another day unless it was in his bed. She mumbled, “Please, just kiss me.”

Victory washed over his face. She’d melted. The ice queen had let him in, if only for a moment. JD pulled her into a tighter embrace. His lips were practically against hers. “Are you sure?”

She nodded slowly. All the air had escaped her lungs.
